The vigil is set to be held in George Square
A vigil is set to be held in Glasgow's George Square in memory of a transgender teenager who was allegedly stabbed to death in a Cheshire park.
Brianna Ghey, 16, was found by members of the public at Linear Park on Saturday. Emergency services rushed to the scene at around 3pm after she was discovered on the path with serious injuries. She was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Officers investigating the incident have since arrested two 15-year-olds, one boy and one girl, on suspicion of murder.One of the organisers, Gemma, of the vigil, which will take place at 7pm on Thursday, believes the Glasgow gathering is vital for both the family impacted by the tragedy and the trans people fearing for their safety.
The vigil held in George Square coincides with a number of others across the country as people come together to remember the 16-year-old."It's tragic that this wee girl lost her life and there are a lot of trans people and parents of trans people who are really frightened just now, I think the community needs a bit of support.
"We want to provide comfort to a grieving family but we also want other trans kids and their families to know that they aren't hated, there are so many people on their side that want them to live freely and not be afraid.
