Glasgow’s newest councillor John Carson has pledged to hold the SNP to account over "the state of the city" - and believes there is growing support among residents for Labour.
“What is really happening right now is Glasgow disproportionately suffers from cuts,” he said. “The solution the SNP seems to have is that local communities are going to compete with each other for resources. The thing is everyone is paying their council tax, they are all entitled to equal treatment.A by-election was called in the Linn ward after the death of former Glasgow Labour group leader Malcolm Cunning.
“I think the key thing is going to be holding the SNP council to account for the state of the city, for proper investment in the city and to focus on the real issues,” he said. “You look at cleansing services, your roads, lighting, all that kind of stuff.” “It’s a difficult thing, but you go out and speak to people and you get a real boost. Labour’s definitely gone through a very difficult and challenging period.
