The announcement was made by Hadid just days after Elon Musk took over the site, resulting in widespread staff layoffs worldwide. The layoffs have resulted in retaliation from both staff and Twitter users including celebrities like Hadid.

She also shared a statement released by ex-employee Shannon Raj Singh who said,"Yesterday was my last day at Twitter: the entire Human Rights team has been cut from the company. I am enormously proud of the work we did to implement the UN Guiding Principles on Business & Human Rights, to protect those at-risk in global conflicts & crises including Ethiopia".
