Giddy Up Grits event a ‘game-changer’ for special needs kids, families attending Stampede yyc

The event has been part of the Stampede for more than 40 years, hosted by the Calgary Stampede Queen’s Alumni Committee, and is specifically designed for special needs kids and their families. It begins with a pancake breakfast and then gives the kids a chance to hit the grounds before the gates open to the public.

“So this is our opportunity to give the special needs community a VIP treatment. So we have a pancake breakfast, live music, mascots, you name it. Then we actually open up the midway for them and then the barns as well so they have access to the rides and the animals.”Article content “If it wasn’t set up like this, it just wouldn’t work as well for our family and I think for a lot of families who come,” said Kristy Cutinha, attending the breakfast with her daughter, Hayley, and her son, Ryder, who is on the autism spectrum and has epilepsy.

Lee said the event is close to the hearts of the whole Stampede Queen’s Alumni Committee and comes from “a place of love and compassion.”
