The rookie scored his first NFL touchdown one play after dropping a pass.
“As a receiver when the ball touches our hands, we want to catch everything,” Hyatt said after the Giants’ 21-19 victory over the Panthers. “I believe I can catch any ball that comes to me. When you have a play like that and I don’t come up with it, it’s always the next-play mentality. That’s what they’ve been teaching me.”
“I saw the safety high and his leverage was in the middle of the field, so I just faked like I was running a post and came right back out with a deep corner route,” Hyatt said. “Great play and it was perfect how coach Kaf dialed it up. I’m going to attack them with speed and he was about 20 yards off. I was staring him down while I was running my route. I had them where I wanted them as far as spacing.
“It just came into my head,” Hyatt said. “I don’t know what I was doing to be honest. With celebrations, you can plan it, but when you actually score I kind of blacked out and didn’t do what I planned on doing.”Hyatt was first greeted by coach Brian Daboll on the Giants’ sideline. After a short conversation with his head coach, he had an enthusiastic congratulatory meeting with Jones and linebacker Jihad Ward before receiving a pat on the helmet from receivers coach Mike Groh.
