Ken Ofori-Atta, Ghana's former finance minister, has been declared a fugitive by prosecutors due to alleged involvement in multiple corruption cases. He left Ghana to evade investigations and faces efforts to bring him back.

Ghana 's former finance minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, has been declared a fugitive by prosecutors due to his alleged involvement in multiple corruption cases during his tenure in government. Ofori-Atta, who left Ghana to evade investigations, faces a concerted effort to bring him back to the country. Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyabeng stated that all necessary steps would be taken to ensure his return. Ofori-Atta's absence is attributed to a claimed medical reason, according to his lawyers.

However, Agyabeng revealed that the 66-year-old ex-minister failed to appear for an interview with the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), despite being informed of his suspect status. Ofori-Atta's departure from Ghana in early January, coupled with his expressed disinterest in 'willingly' returning, led Agyabeng to declare him a fugitive from justice.Ofori-Atta served as finance minister from January 2017 to February 2024 while the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was in power. With the inauguration of President John Mahama in January, a new investigative committee, known as Operation Recover All Loot, was established. This committee has received over 200 complaints of corruption, with an estimated $20 billion in recoverable funds. Mahama has directed the attorney general and minister of justice to launch investigations into these allegations, emphasizing that Ghana will no longer tolerate corruption as a safe haven
