'What ever happened to girl power?'
‘Holding a trophy is not going to keep you warm at night, is it?’ ‘When I came out of my mother’s womb, I screamed: ‘Girl Power’. Those are the infamous words of the iconic Ginger Spice, aka Geri Halliwell-Horner. One fifth of the Spice Girls , the owner of that Union Jack dress and the woman who brought feminism to a new generation.
‘And if you want kids, but can’t have them, it’s another blow, and only adds to your grief.’ Zoë adds that our patriarchal society tries to force a divide between parents and non-parents. ‘There is no competition,’ she says. ‘We have to build empathy. We need to recognise that you can be happy and fulfilled with and without kids.’ This sentiment is echoed by Angelica Malin, an author, and new mum to a 13-week-old daughter.
