Gerald Butts, former principal secretary to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, is testifying at a hearing of the House of Commons justice committee at 10 a.m. ET about allegations that he inappropriately pressured former Attorney General Jody Wilson-Raybould to prevent Montreal-based company SNC-Lavalin from being prosecuted in a bribery case.
When Wilson-Raybould pointed out that, by law, the Public Prosecution Service of Canada is independent and shouldn’t be interfered with, Butts told her “the statute was set up by Harper and that he does not like the law.”The Dec.
