When the family unfurled the mat, they found a newborn baby girl, inside a tied plastic bag. She was alive. Her umbilical cord was still attached.reports, Georgia police have now released body camera footage of first responders arriving at the scene and tending to the baby. The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office said it hoped the video would lead someone to come forward with information about the baby’s identity.
For now, authorities have nicknamed her “Baby India.” After she was discovered, she was given first aid by paramedics and then taken to a local hospital. Baby India has since been placed in a foster home and is doing “fantastically well,” Sheriff Ron Freeman said, according to NBC. Freeman also said that the department had been inundated with calls and emails asking to adopt India or contribute financially to her care., which allows parents to surrender their infants, within 30 days of birth, to any fire station, police station, or hospital. They do not need to provide ID.
