The Rochdale MP met with the health minister this week
George Galloway has announced that maternity services will return to Rochdale by next year. But local NHS bosses say they are not aware of the plan.
He said: "She agrees that it is absurd that you cannot be born in Rochdale unless en route in the taxi to Oldham. We now have a high-level plan to reinstate maternity services in Rochdale, and I will be meeting with the Heads of the Integrated Care Board and Hospital Trust to make this a reality. However, the maternity arm of the NHS in Greater Manchester says it has not been involved in these discussions. A spokesperson said: "The Local Maternity and Neonatal System has not been involved in any recent discussion specifically regarding the reinstatement of Rochdale Infirmary maternity services. It is not aware of any funding allocated specifically from within the LMNS."
