Batavia, N.Y.— The Batavia Police Department is investigating the death of Genesee County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Thomas A. Sanfratello, a 32-year veteran of
Wyoming County until 5 a.m. Monday. Snow amounts between 3-6" in Wyoming County. According to police, Sanfratello and casino security were notified about an altercation inside the facility. After an initial verbal confrontation inside the bar area, Sanfratello, alongside Batavia Downs security staff, began escorting two patrons, Michael Elmore, age 33, and Lyndsey Wilcox, age 39, out at the request of the Batavia Downs security staff.
During the altercation, Sanfratello attempted to use a Taser electronic control device on Elmore. However, Elmore continued to be combative.
