Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi is set to outline his priorities for his administration later on Thursday.
JOHANNESBURG - Some political parties say they are worried the Gauteng State of the Province Address will fall flat on promises to deal with a range of challenges that residents face in the country’s economic hub.
When he delivered his inaugural SOPA a year ago, Lesufi’s biggest challenges included the electricity crisis, poor infrastructure, crime and unemployment. The Democratic Alliance's leader in Gauteng, Solly Msimanga, said Lesufi doesn’t have his finger on the pulse. “The problems are not going away. They’re not going away because we’re talking about them but we’re not doing anything about them in government.”
ActionSA's Gauteng provincial chairperson, Funzi Ngobeni, said he was optimistic about the premier’s plans. “We wish him well. We are not like others who want him to fail, we want him to succeed but he needs to appreciate the moment and make sure that he is in line with the times of today.”
