The UIF initiated the R23.8 billion project earlier this month, with the first round of applications starting in Gauteng on Saturday., this is a step by the Labor and Employment Department to boost job opportunities in the country, given the high number of unemployed youth. The labour activation program aims to hire nearly half a million individuals in Gauteng for six months to three years.Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi ensures that these job openings are available to all unemployed residents of the province, not just those under 35 years old.The Department of Employment and Labour and the Unemployment Insurance Fund will collaborate with private businesses, SETAs, and NGOs to generate numerous job opportunities for Gauteng residents.

The Gauteng launch is part of an R23.8 billion national job creation plan to create over 700,000 employment opportunities nationwide.Nxesi emphasised the importance of welcoming all efforts to combat rising unemployment in South Africa.
