Lesufi is expected to use the opportunity to reflect on the challenges and achievements over the past year while setting out priorities and plans for the year ahead.

JOHANNESBURG - Members of the Gauteng legislature will gather in Pretoria on Monday afternoon, for Premier Panyaza Lesufi’s 4th State of the Province Address .

Throughout his tenure, attempts to address crime and joblessness have not yielded the necessary results, with some opposition arguing that the province has regressed on his watch. In 2024, Lesufi committed to advancing infrastructure development in the province known as Africa’s most industrialised economy.

But Build One South Africa’s Ayanda Allie said the premier’s big promises shouldn’t be taken seriously. “The premier will announce that broadband is expanding into townships but if you scrutinise the numbers, the reality is quite different. For example, out of the 10 targets that were set by the Gauteng Department of Economic Development for the 2024/25 financial year, only 7 were achieved and I can tell you now the expansion of broadband into townships was not one of those that were achieved.”
