As the deadline for online school placements in Gauteng approaches, parents are struggling with the system implemented by the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE). The system, similar to one in the Western Cape, allows parents to register their grade 1 and 8 learners and select schools. Although the deadline was extended to January 30th, 2025, many parents are reporting technical difficulties and frustrations with the system.
Applications were extended to 30th January 2025 after initially closing on 12th August 2024.As the extended 30th January deadline for online school placement s for grade 1 and 8 learners in Gauteng approaches, parents in the province say that they are struggling with the system made by the Gauteng Department of Education .the 2025 version of the system last year in July.
Parents will get a chance to select only one school and says, “Placement to the selected school is automatic and final.”“Something’s wrong with the website. We can’t select schools and it doesn’t log you in with the correct credentials too,” said one user on X. “I’m feeling so anxious right now because I have to go to the district after the system declined all the schools I applied to.”
