The spiritual divine should reign inside many minds to prevent GBV from taking place, Community Safety MEC Faith Mazibuko has said.Her department has partnered with churches to reign inside the minds of abusive men.Community Safety MEC Faith Mazibuko believes that prayer can change the minds of women and child abusers running amok in Gauteng and across South Africa.
"We believe that by also engaging with men, things could change. Men must come forward in assisting in this fight. "Assault and common assault are most prevalent. Some of them happen in shebeens. Sexual offences are also worrying us more. Some murders are not associated with GBV. These are the problems we face in Gauteng."As women, we must remain vigilant. We must stop living in abusive relationships. We advise women to notice the signs of abuse and quickly move out of abusive relationships. Once you have identified those signs of abuse, leave while it is early.
"We have floor managers at police stations who ensure that victim friendly rooms are properly assisting victims. We avoid situations where victims are turned back or forced to narrate their ordeal in public," said Mazibuko.
