RTMC and SA Police arrested seven suspects, including officials and applicants, in a crackdown on corruption at Meyerton licensing center.

Gauteng, seven suspects, including licensing officials and driving licence applicants, were apprehended by the Road Traffic Management Corporation’s national traffic anti-corruption unit and the Commercial Crimes Unit of the South African Police Service.Gauteng set to officially launch FREE learner’s license projectDuring the arrests, one of the officials was discovered in possession of more than R30,000 in cash, believed to be ill-gotten gains from the suspected criminal activities.
Advocate Msibi, the CEO of RTMC, was present at the scene and did not mince words when he pointed out the avarice of the officials as the root cause of the rampant corruption at the licensing center. “Allegations suggest that these officials illicitly issued heavy-duty driving licenses to applicants who never underwent the required tests. Additionally, they purportedly colluded with driving school operators to use intermediaries for writing learner license tests on behalf of the applicants,” read the statement.This operation is just the beginning, with investigations ongoing, and more arrests anticipated.
