JOHANNESBURG - While the big political players are making headway, raking up more votes on the results board in Gauteng, some independent candidates are leading ahead of some smaller parties.
For the first time this year, with the signing of the Electoral Amendment Bill, independent candidates entered the ring, contesting the national and provincial polls.While it’s still early to tell, with only 15.59% of the vote counted, Tshepo Mogano, who contested in the province, said that he had a reason to celebrate.
"I am feeling very excited, I am mostly excited for South Africa, I am excited for them accepting change, I am excited for them to be happy about change, more than anything, I am happy for the voter." Some other independents featured on the regional ballot contesting to be in Parliarment are Anele Mda, who is currently sitting at 252 votes, and Louis Liebenberg at 114.
