Gauteng Health MEC Bandile Masuku and his wife, Loyiso, have taken leave of absence after being linked to a controversial R125 million personal protective equipment scandal.

Johannesburg - Their leave of absence comes after the Gauteng Health Department awarded Amabhaca King Madzikane Diko, the husband of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s spokesperson, Khusela Diko, the tender to provide PPE to the province.

The decision to place the Masukus on leave was announced on Thursday at a press conference held by the leadership of the ANC in Gauteng. ANC provincial secretary Jacob Khawe said the provincial integrity commission was expected to conclude its work within a two- to four-week period.“We took this decision in the interest of clean governance. We took this decision as a fair process that would allow everyone an opportunity to present their case,” he said.
