People have been advised to avoid the area
A gas leak has forced several major Northampton roads to close as firefighters attend the scene. The site of the incident is Angel Square, with several businesses and West Northamptonshire Council offices based in the area.
Northamptonshire Police posted on Facebook about the incident at 9:49am this morning . The following roads are currently closed to all road traffic and pedestrians:READ MORE: Dog, 11, was stuck for over 24 hours in underground drain A spokesperson for the force added: "Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service and gas services are on scene alongside our officers, with building evacuations underway as a precaution.Travel provider Inrix said Fetter Street is closed in both directions. It added: "Angel Street and St John's Street are also closed ".
According to Google Maps, traffic seems to be coping in the general vicinity. There is congestion on the A5123 and St Giles Street in the town centre as of 11.40am this morning.READ NEXT:
