“It’s hitting home here now. It’s special. I look back on my days with the Senators and there were a lot of great ones,” said Redden. “To have this honour and it with my family, there were so many good times and good moments. I really grew up here. “It’s a well-deserved honour,” said former goaltender Patrick Lalime, who was here Monday. “He was one of the main pillars of the franchise for years. I really enjoyed him as a teammate and I loved him even more as a player.Article content
While Bryan Berard was selected No. 1 overall by the Senators in 1995, he refused to sign here and sought a trade. “ was my first roommate in an NHL training camp,” Smith said before the game. “It was a lockout year and they only brought two guys from the draft to camp. We were both really young and we weren’t ready for what was coming.
He played a big role on an Ottawa team that made the playoffs for the first time in franchise history in 1997 and then went on to have tremendous success. Redden never missed the playoffs while he was with the Senators, a remarkable achievement.
