Sometimes it’s easier to sum up a person’s life on paper when you don’t actually know them that well.

This isn’t just a name in the paper, this is someone I knew well, someone I spent a lot of time with a for a lot of years and Stanton was never front-and-centre in his job but he was well-known and respected in hockey circles.

Stanton followed Murray to Detroit as a part-time scout and left his job with the city to take on a full-time role with the Kings. He liked big players who could skate, he liked those who had an edge to their game and he was never short on opinion.Article content “He wanted to know what was going on. He was good that. He just loved the game for hockey. For a young scout that had just come into the business, he took care of me. He was someone that I spent a lot of time with. We drove to many, many games together. He could be gruff, at times, but he liked good hockey players and he knew good hockey players.”Article content

They may have worked for different teams, but, first and foremost, they were friends. It was only natural for Stanton to lend Dorion Jr. a hand when he first entered the business.
