The road to the Ottawa Senators’ training camp officially will open Thursday.

“There were some guys who went home who were given some direction on what they needed to work on and this will give us a chance to see if they’ve worked on it. That’s a big thing. Our scouts are there and they get a chance to showcase themselves against other teams. There’s also the odd kid that we just drafted this year and this is their first time through this.”
He spent most of the summer in Ottawa working with the club’s medical and training staff preparing for this season. The expectation is once camp starts Sanderson will be paired with veterans such as Travis Hamonic and Nick Holden. The reality is several of the prospects will be headed back to their junior teams if they’re still eligible, or to the club’s AHL affiliate in Belleville.
“Pierre Dorion, D.J. Smith and all the guys who have to make decisions on these players are there watching,” Donovan said. “Of course, it’s a real view and real action against players from other organizations. That gives us a chance to see where they stand.
