Progress on Pajaro levee breach, but work remains with more rain on the way

Monterey County officials said Tuesday that crews working round-the-clock are close to plugging the gap in the Pajaro River levee, but more work remains to raise the height of the earthen levee as additional storms are forecast for next week.

Once that work is done, crews will begin building up the height of the levee about four or five feet to match the rest of the embankment. The town, however, remains under evacuation order, under several feet of floodwater with no electricity and undrinkable water.
