San Diego State looking for third win over Bulldogs this season
SDSU has won six Mountain West Tournament titles but never as the 3 seed. It has won twice as the 1, twice as the 5 and once each as the 2 and 4. Coach Brian Dutcher hopes his team is back at full strength after Aguek Arop sat out Saturday’s game at Nevada and Tahirou Diabate couldn’t play in the second half. Keith Dinwiddie also returned to the team after missing several weeks to tend to a serious family matter in Los Angeles. He last appeared in a game Jan. 31 against New Mexico.
They survived an overtime scare from San Jose State in Wednesday’s play-in game, winning 69-67 behind 31 points by 7-footer Orlando Robinson, whom Spartans coach Tim Miles called “the best prospect I’ve gone against all season.” The big tactical decision for SDSU is how to defend him. In the first meeting, the Aztecs had a sophisticated double-team scheme where a second defender went when he put it on the floor.
