Tercious Malepe was the sole change for Usuthu from their 4-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs, but Ayanda Nkili, Mpho Mvelase, Lehlohonolo Nonyane and Olivier Toure returned for Gallants.
AmaZulu were very close to draw level midway in the first half with a decent attempt from close-range by Dumisani Zuma, but it was cleared off the goal-line. Bahlabane Ba Ntwa were given a golden chance to go back ahead in the last minute to halftime as Abbubaker Mobara gave away a foul in the box and won a penalty.
AmaZulu made a substitution at the start of the second half in Sphesihle Maduna ahead of Ekstein, whereas Bahlabane Ba Ntwa didn’t make any alterations.
