The Cleveland Browns are trying to mitigate public backlash this week following news they may soon be seeking a new, $1 billion stadium, but the team’s ambiguous plans continue to leave room for uncertainty about its lakefront home.

Kaitlin Durbin, cleveland.com

In a statement Monday, Peter John-Baptiste, senior vice president of communications for the Browns and Haslam Sports Group, seemed to suggest that the idea of moving or rebuilding the city-owned stadium isn’t even in the team’s purview as it considers its future after the current lease expires in 2028.

The Browns are asking the community not to jump to conclusions too soon. They say the feasibility study will answer questions about what the cost of renovating the existing stadium might be or “what the aesthetics” would entail. The results are expected in 2023.
