Carlos Alcaraz defeated Novak Djokovic in a nail-biting performance in the Wimbledon men’s final on Sunday. The 20-year-old Spaniard played spoiler in No. 2 Djokovic’s attempt to win his third major title of 2023. As he went down in the fifth set, the Serbian athlete reacted in frustration, smashing his racquet against a net post.
He regained his composure by the end of the match, congratulating the other athlete 16 years his junior. “You never like to lose matches like this. I guess when all the emotions are settled I have to still be very grateful,” Djokovic told reporters. The Wimbledon victory marked a comeback for Alcaraz, who was defeated by Djokovic in the French Open semifinals back in June.
