The step will make it virtually 'impossible' for Jewish and Muslim families to bury their loved ones within 24 hours of their death in accordance with custom
Some members of the public have claimed a loved-one’s funeral, or that of a friend’s relative, has been called off in deference to the Queen – but funeral providers have insisted that they will honour existing bookings and will only postpone at the wishes of the bereaved, or if a third-party service integral to the arrangements closes for the occasion.
funerals take place as soon as possible after a person’s death, often within 24 hours. But the addition of an unforeseen Bank Holiday to the calendar on 19 September will make it extremely difficult for families of those who die at the weekend to obtain the necessary documentation to permit burial before Tuesday.
Without that document, bereaved families will be unable to obtain a certificate for the burial or cremation of the body in good time.
