Cassidy hopes a government grant will help recruit and retain health professionals in the Yarmouth area. CONTRIBUTEDYARMOUTH, NS – A community group in Yarmouth is thrilled about a recent financial boost to help them recruit and retain doctors and other health professionals in the area.
The influx of money is arriving via the provincial government’s new Office of Healthcare Professionals Recruitment Community Fund. It’s a program that allowed community groups and municipalities to apply for up to $100,000 for projects that attempt to help with the recruitment and retention of health practitioners.
“We have a number of physicians that are from the community and have been working here literally for decades and they’re coming to a point in their career where they are looking to retire,” explains Cassidy. “We really need to make sure that we do our best in terms of retention for those that we have been able to get as a good fit.”
In practical terms, that means the partnership will design ways to help health-care workers adjust to the Yarmouth region with awareness initiatives that will focus on local culture, nature, arts and other aspects.
