Conway Park in Fulwood is due to see the latest stage in a revamp of the play area
Following a consultation with local residents, the top community priorities were to improve the play area, and the footpath network around the park as well as addressing land drainage. The eastern end of the site was refurbished, as a first phase of improvements, in 2020, with four new items of play equipment being installed, complete with some drainage, safer surfacing and paths, plus six trees.
Cabinet is now being recommended to approve a fully funded addition of £34,301.20, which has been secured by Friends of Conway Park through several charities and organisations for the scheme to go ahead. The second phase is said to further modernise the play facility by installing three new spinners and a new accessible roundabout, complete with associated drainage, safer surfacing and paths, plus the refurbishment of an existing multi play unit and its surfacing.
The project will allow a wider range of age groups and those of varying degrees of mobility to make better use of Conway Park. The impact statement by service users said: “The project delivery will further improve the quality of the Council’s parks and open space sites.” The climate impact statement said: “The project will have a neutral impact on the climate but will have a positive impact on local environmental quality.”
A meeting will be held on Wednesday 2 November, where Cabinet will discuss external funding and the delivery of the community park improvement project.
