There are lots of opportunities to pay your respects
Across Nottingham city and county, plans are being finalised for this year's Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday. The dates for your diary are Armistice Day, Friday, November 11, and Remembrance Sunday, Sunday, November 13.
Remembrance Sunday - Sunday, November 13 Victoria Embankment, Nottingham The occasion will begin with the traditional parade of Armed Forces personnel, cadets and veterans, followed by a traditional Remembrance Service at Nottingham's war memorial on Victoria Embankment. The ceremony will begin at 10.45am and include the two-minute silence and wreath laying. The Nottinghamshire Band of The Royal Engineers , accompanied by the Nottingham Hospitals’ Choir will provide music for the service.
City centre There will be no activity in Old Market Square on Sunday, November 13. The traditional Remembrance Service parade will be at Nottingham's war memorial on Victoria Embankment. Councillor Lee Waters said: “We’re pleased to have helped the British Legion with crucial funding to make sure our parade happens for its 100th Anniversary. I know late Councillor Jim Blagden pushed hard to ensure the parade was back for its centenary. It is a crucial part of Hucknall’s history and we will be marching with pride – remembering those who gave so much for the freedoms we enjoy today.
Calverton Over in Calverton, several roads are due to be closed for the parade between 10.45am and 12noon. Roads impacted include Collyer Road, between its junctions with Mansfield Lane and Main Street, along with Main Street, between its junctions with Mansfield Lane and Burnor Pool. In addition, Mansfield Lane between its junctions with Collyer Road and Park Road will be closed.
