FT Ministry to call for proposals from private sector over Labuan-Menumbok bridge project

LABUAN: The Federal Territories Ministry will be calling for proposals from the private sector for the Labuan-Menumbok Bridge project by the end of the year.

Its minister Khalid Abdul Samad said his ministry would compile and study all proposals prior to making any decision on whether or not to proceed with the bridge project.“Thus, any such decision would only be taken after comprehensive study of all aspects have been taken into account," he said.Khalid estimated that the project would cost around RM4bil.

He added that important factors such as the engineering feasibility and the economic impact on local ferry operators must also be taken into consideration. “A holistic study on the environmental and social impact of such project must also be accounted for, ” he said after launching the “Inflight Media Advertisement Space AirAsia” at the Labuan Airport here on Friday .“We must discuss the matter further with them and identity what forms of support we will receive from them, ” he said.
