It was built years ago but never occupied

Neighbours to an 'eyesore' building criticised for looking 'like a bombsite' have been frustrated by a lack of progress on the site's redevelopment. The derelict Irwin Business Centre, in Church Street, Old Basford, has been unoccupied for more than a decade and has been significantly vandalised, with windows shattered, large amounts of graffiti daubed on it and walls have been damaged.

Paul Daffin, 62, from Basford, said the building had become a mess not long after it had been constructed. "It's been like that for most of the time. It looks like a bombsite at the minute," Mr Daffin said."You see kids running through there and being chased by police sometimes. It needs to be just pulled down, I think, and for it to have a fresh start.

Vaughan Kerry, 66, a part-time security worker from Basford, said: "It's a complete eyesore and looks like it's falling apart. The pigeons are the only ones who like it. The redevelopment was expected to cost around £1m, with up to 10 parking spaces planned at the site. It was hoped work would start on the new apartments in 2020. Nottinghamshire Live attempted to contact the developers to request an update on the project.
