From his death bed, Gordhan called people he wanted to see, including Ramaphosa, and Mapaila of the SACP
ANC leaders, supporters and Gordhan’s close friends gathered on Tuesday for Gordhan’s memorial service at the Johannesburg City Hall. “At no stage did this brave cadre of our revolution turn his back against the African National Congress. At no stage, even when he was not elected to the national executive council of the ANC, when he was recalled from government or when he was undermined and insulted, did he ever utter a word of insult to the leadership of the ANC.
The Ahmed Kathrada Foundation executive director, Neeshan Balton, who spoke on behalf of Gordan’s family, shared with attendees some details of the last moments before Gordan died. “I am happy that the last visit with comrade PG was from President Ramaphosa. He was there late on Thursday night, and we had all left. He came and he spent 30 to 45 minutes there talking to PG, not sure that he understood, but he recommitted himself to the ideals and aspirations and the issues that PG was still trying to champion up until his last days."From his deathbed, he directed his funeral. We were preparing for his funeral to take place in Johannesburg.
