Zanokuhle Mokoena , a recent graduate of Hoërskool Nelspruit , defied the odds to achieve remarkable success in her matric year. Hailing from Mbombela, Zanokuhle's educational journey began at Little Angel Primary School before transitioning to Meridian Karino for a year. She continued her primary education at Laerskool Nelspruit, culminating in her graduation from Grade Seven in 2019. Driven by her mother's influence, a teacher at Hoërskool Nelspruit , Zanokuhle joined the high school in 2020.
However, her transition presented a significant challenge: mastering Afrikaans as a primary language after primarily studying in English.Initially apprehensive, Zanokuhle's determination proved to be her greatest asset. Recognizing the daunting task ahead, she committed herself to rigorous studying, setting a personal goal of never falling below an 80% average. She diligently completed her homework daily, dedicated two hours each afternoon to studying, and actively sought clarification from her teachers when faced with difficulties. This unwavering commitment, coupled with her belief that 'the word 'fail' would never ever be in my vocabulary', propelled her through the academic hurdles.Zanokuhle's success wasn't solely a product of her individual efforts. She emphasized the importance of surrounding herself with like-minded, hardworking friends who provided unwavering support. From Grade 10 onwards, she tackled a demanding curriculum encompassing seven subjects: Afrikaans home language, English first additional language, mathematics, physical sciences, business studies, accounting, and life orientation. Her laser focus on her studies meant she chose to forego extracurricular activities, ensuring nothing distracted her from her academic pursuits. This dedication culminated in her achieving three distinctions in life orientation, business studies, and English during her matric year. With plans to remark her mathematics and accounting results, which narrowly missed distinction status, Zanokuhle's academic future remains exceptionally bright. Her story is an inspiring testament to the power of hard work, determination, and a supportive network
