We recommend Melanie Barrios-Jones over Keith Maddox in this contest of first-time candidates for the Frisco Independent School District, Place 7 seat.
Maddox, the chief compliance officer at the University of North Texas at Dallas, brings a strong résumé that spans 35 years of experience with the U.S. Department of Education, NASA, the U.S. Postal Service and the U.S. Navy. His leadership, organizational and educational skills align with the duties of a school board member who must review budgets and effectively allocate resources.
We are grateful Frisco voters have a race of two well-qualified candidates who would both be positive contributors. Maddox, who served on the Frisco Education Foundation and the Frisco Inclusion Committee, is a strong candidate. Barrios-Jones, however, brings directness to potentially uncomfortable conversations that the district needs to have about its future. She merits a seat on the board..
