The bird was discovered among rubbish in the back of the waste vehicle on November 18. Images show the male animal's feathers matted from being covered in filth shortly after Scottish SPCA officers quickly moved in to rescue him.
He was rushed to the animal welfare charity's nearest shelter, where he received several washes to remove the dirt. Officers then had to place the owl under heat in order to revive him from the conditions. He spent 10 days in isolation before he was released back into the wild. It is unknown how the animal ended up in the rear of the food waste lorry.
A spokesperson from the SPCA said: "Hard to believe this is the same tawny owl, right? This poor wee guy was saved from a food waste truck, and he was in a terrible state when we got him. "Our wildlife team worked hard to clean him up and after some TLC, he was released back into the wild. Thousands of animals at our wildlife centre like this tawny owl benefit from the gift of rescue."READ NEXT:
