Sugary drink consumption linked to early death
, links the consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages to premature death.
Their findings showed a clear connection, with women who drank two or more sugary beverages a day being 63 per cent more likely to die prematurely than women who had one sugar-sweetened beverage a month or fewer. For men, the difference was 29 per cent. The risk of death was lowered if people replaced their sugary drinks with beverages sweetened with artificial sweeteners such as aspartame, saccharin and sucralose, but the decrease was slight.
