Moncton woke up to slush, ice and even more snow following Friday’s first real taste of winter.
“I think it’s pretty crazy,” said Jack Kenan, who was watching his sister play hockey Saturday morning. “It’s wet and gross outside. Not really safe for driving.”
As conditions continued Saturday, widespread closures and cancellations were seen. Moncton’s Public Library decided not to open, and a junior hockey game was postponed in Truro and in Summerside, a COVID-19 testing site closed at 10:30 this morning. "We salted earlier, in hopes that would be enough and that it might not snow,” said operations manager, Lisa Brush. “So you're doing both so it's a double whammy and this type of snow, though it might seem like not much for a business, it's very costly for a business so we might as well be doing two 20cm storms."
The locally owned business has been around for almost 25 years and even though this winter has been fairly timid so far, Brush says there are concerns as the season pushes forward.
