As inflation bites deeper into household budgets, Greater Vancouver Family Services is pointing people to government help programs

The report showed the price of store-bought groceries had jumped by 10.3 per cent and meals from restaurants by 6.2 per cent. The biggest jump in the food category was coffee and tea at 20 per cent. Rent costs went up 4.7 per cent and the price of gas rose 27 per cent. The cost of clothing and footwear was reasonably steady at 0.3 per cent.Article content
By comparison, Canada’s inflation rate was up 6.9 per cent, so things are worse in B.C. In May of 2020, inflation in Canada was at zero per cent. Baker said there are federal and provincial inflation benefits that people may not know about, like the GST credits or B.C.’s Safer Grant .as well as one-on-one financial coaching sessions offered in English, French, Farsi, Cantonese and Vietnamese.
