Free concerts coming to Miller Outdoor Theatre for its 100th season including jazz great Hubert Laws and a tribute to Michael Jackson.
Miller Outdoor Theatre celebrates its centennial this year. The first performers of the 2023 season have been announced, starting with a March 17 St. Patrick’s Day event featuring the Trinity Irish Dance Company.
Though 2023 marks 100 years since Miller first welcomed Houston audiences, the full scope of the beloved venue’s history requires rewinding a little bit further into the past. The theater, which hosts eight months of free art and entertainment each year, took its name from a mining engineer who left some property to the City of Houston upon his death in 1919. Jacob Miller’s land sold for $50,000, which two years later was authorized for the construction of a bandstand within Hermann Park.
