We need to establish a national values program that inspires our students by teaching them the core values and principles that define Canada.

At its most fundamental level, an education system helps instill a nation’s basic values within its citizens. Many of the values and principles we cherish — our democratic rights and freedoms, our democratic system of government and the free enterprise system that built our prosperity — are no longer taught and defended with the same passion and conviction as they once were.

We also need to make physical activity and athletic competition a key feature of youth education, instead of relegating it to the sidelines. Competition in its purest form is the essence of sports. I believe our schools ought to develop what I call “sports character” in their students by devoting more time to sports and other athletic activities.Article content

In addition, we need to do a better job of teaching students how various economic systems, like capitalism and socialism, operate, particularly during a time when the divide between the wealthy and the poor is growing wider and more and more politicians are advocating for increased social spending.
