BEDFORD , Ohio — Bedford and Bedford Heights celebrated the Fourth of July on Thursday by hosting their 39th annual Independence Day parade.
The parade, also representing Oakwood and Walton Hills, began at 10 a.m. at Columbus and Washington Street and stretched on for about 2.5 miles, concluding at Bedford Heights City Hall on Perkins Road. Despite the high temperatures and humidity, spectators came prepared with umbrellas, fans, and water to stave off the heat.
The parade showcased a variety of participants: local police, rescue workers, city council members, veterans, small businesses, schools, religious groups, car enthusiasts, dancers. Even Big Foot made an appearance. Elmo, Cookie Monster, Mario, Mickey, and Minnie, stopped to pose for photos with gleeful children. Bedford Mayor Stanley Koci and others threw candy to children who eagerly gathered it up. To keep the crowd cool and hydrated, Bedford Ward 1 Councilwoman Sandy Spinks handed out freeze pops, while the Guru Gobind Singh Sikh Society distributed cold bottled water. If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.
