Fort Bend County has been added to the list of counties eligible for federal funding in the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl.
The amended Disaster Declaration, which now includes 17 counties in Texas, will now allow residents of Fort Bend County to apply for federal disaster assistance as the area recovers from widespread damage caused by the hurricane.A press release from the Office of Fort Bend County Judge KP George estimates that the area was hit with over $20 million worth of damages.
“Our team has been working with state, federal, and local agencies to make sure that we are addressing this catastrophe the right way,” Judge George stated in the same press release. “Our goal is to simply make sure that our citizens are taken care of, which is why I signed the Disaster Declaration on July 9, without hesitation.”
According to Judge George, the county has made substantial progress in restoring power, as over 300,000 residents have regained electricity. The judge will also be hosting a water, food, and supply distribution event at the Fort Bend County Epicenter on Sunday, July 14 at 10 a.m.Michael is a Kingwood native who loves shooting hoops, visiting local breweries and overreacting to Houston sports.
