Pascale Fournier told MPs she was personally attacked for insisting that certain board members recuse themselves from the investigation
Fournier said she was not involved in the decision-making at the time, having only started in that position in 2018, but sought some clarification on what happened. Morris Rosenberg was her predecessor in the role of CEO and the one who went ahead with the donation in 2016.
For instance, the two cheques were issued by a company named Millennium Golden Eagle International, but only the names of Zhang and Niu appear in the annual reports, she said. Fournier said that she was ready to stay on as chair for two more years, on the condition that a law firm and an accounting firm review the information she had collected, and that board members involved with the donation at the time recuse themselves.
The original amount that was promised to the Trudeau Foundation was $200,000, but Fournier said she never sought to get the last payment of $60,000, since the terms of the contract — to use the money to organize conferences on China — did not fit with her strategic plan.
