Emalahleni in Mpumalanga may not have a representative in South African football’s premier and second-tier structures currently, but at least there are efforts to keep the passion for the game alive among aspiring young players
Former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Trevor Mosehathebe, who hails from the coal mining town previously known as Witbank, this week returned to his roots to donate soccer equipment to a local school.READ: Mosehathebe feels there’s a need to give back to the community that supported his dream, which became a reality when he landed a professional soccer contract as a teenager in the late 1990s.
Emalahleni last had a football club in the South African elite league six years ago with Mpumalanga Black Aces, which sold their premiership status to Cape Town City in 2016.It is this dire situation that has pushed Mosehathebe to do his bit for a kasi that has produced some of South Africa’s finest talents, such as father and son Thomas and Dumisa Ngobe, Steve “Disco” Makua and Frank Makua, and in recent years, Tsepo Masilela and Innocent Mdledle .
Mosehathebe, however, prefers to keep a low profile and now wants to help shape the dreams of young players in his home town. “Several people assisted in getting our project off the ground. We would like to extend our gratitude to Lumoss Mouldings [a plastic promotional products company] for their generous donation of 500 water bottles,” said the player who is known as “Magesh” among his peers and former team-mates.
