Disgraced former chief executive of Steinhoff Markus Jooste has reportedly shot himself shortly after the Financial Sector Conduct Authority revealed that it was fining him a whopping R475 million and that it planned to pursue a criminal case. Jooste reportedly shot himself at his Kwaaiwater property in Hermanus.
has confirmed that Hermanus police opened a docket relating to a shooting incident between 14:40 and 15:20 on Thursday – but the police did not name the individual in question. According to Daily Maverick, an eyewitness said the incident happened outside his home. Emergency personnel had been called to the scene, attached drips with fluid and carried Jooste with a heavily bandaged head on a stretcher to an ambulance, the witness said.
