The cause of Todd Gillingham's death is still unknown.

Born in Labrador City, he spent his formative years in Corner Brook and was known throughout the province for this skill as an athlete. On Monday, Jan. 16, people were remembering him as a friend and a teammate through social media posts and videos.However, it was hockey where the man they call ‘Gilly’ really shined.Gillingham played four years in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, two with the Verdun Junior Canadiens and another two with the Trois-Rivières Draveurs.
From there, Gillingham went on to play four years in the American Hockey League, mostly with the St. John's Maple Leafs, where he was one of the first players from Newfoundland and Labrador to suit up for the team. During his time in the AHL, he posted 37 goals and 108 points in 246 games. While he was never inducted in Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador’s Hall of Fame, a display recognizing his accomplishments on the ice can be found at the hall of fame in Corner Brook.
