The former Moorland Motel property in Whitbourne is currently the subject of a public land auction due to taxes owed to the municipality. - Google Street ViewWHITBOURNE, N.L. — A property located on the Trans-Canada Highway that was the home of a motel for decades is the subject of a public auction this week due to a hefty tax bill owed to the Town of Whitbourne.

The Moorland Motel, according to a VOCM article, closed for good in 2019. A Mary Brown's restaurant also operated out of the building for many years, as did a souvenir shop and ice cream parlour. According to a notice published in the Saturday, Jan. 28, edition of The Telegram, $178,185 in taxes is owed to the town for the property.

The public auction takes place Tuesday, Jan. 31, at the town hall in Whitbourne at 10 a.m. A potential buyer would need to settle the tax bill within 24 hours of the auction ending, with the balance of the purchase price due to be paid within 14 days of the sale date, according to the notice.It has been our privilege to have the trust and support of our East Coast communities for the last 200 years.
